Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board repaired the 1,200 km pipeline in Manikonda, which burst in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in flooding of residential colonies.
HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy said that the pipeline that runs from Khanapur to Bojagutta, ruptured at around 2.40 am on Tuesday morning near Nagulamma temple. Water supply was shut off at 3 am to prevent further damage.
Water supply to be restored in phases:
Repairs began at 7 am and the damaged portions have been replaced using 1,150 MS barrels. Water supply will be restored in phases after repair work is completed, officials said.
Ashok Reddy said water tankers have been deployed to affected areas to avoid inconvenience to residents. Water supply was disrupted in Kokapet, Gandipet, Manikonda, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalguda, Khanapur, and areas under Bojagutta, Shaikpet reservoir commands.
The high-pressure water pipeline ruptured, releasing a high volume of wate, flooding basements in streets of several residential colonies. The presence of nearby Pandena Vagu (canal) helped to drain a significant amount of water, preventing flooding of more colonies, officials said.
