If you are planning a short trip to Madagascar, here is something you need to know.
Starting from February 16, 2026, the country has increased the fee for its 15-day tourist e-Visa. The update was published on the official e-visa portal, and the change is already in effect.
New Madagascar e-Visa Fees (2026)
With the recent fee hike, Madagascar’s 15-day e-Visa now costs:
Until now, it was just €10 or US$10. That means the price has tripled for short stays.
The increase applies only to the 15-day tourist e-Visa. Other visa durations remain the same.
Here is the full fee list:
| Length of Stay | Fee |
|---|---|
| Up to 15 days | €30 (US$35) |
| 16 to 30 days | €35 (US$41) |
| 31 to 60 days | €40 (US$47) |
| Up to 90 days | €50 (US$59) |
If you plan to stay longer than 15 days, there is no price change at this time.
Does This Affect Visa-On-Arrival?
No. The increase only applies to the online e-Visa system. As of now:
- Visa-on-arrival fees remain unchanged
- Embassy and consulate visa fees remain unchanged
If you extend your stay in Madagascar, the visa extension fee is around 210,000 MGA, which is roughly €41 or US$48.
What This Means for Travellers
For short trips, Madagascar just become slightly more expensive.
A 15-day visit is common for tourists who want to explore national parks, beaches, and wildlife without staying too long. Now, travellers need to factor in the higher entry cost.
That said, compared to many other destinations, the fee is still reasonable.
Madagascar e-Visa: Who Can Apply?
Madagascar offers an e-Visa to most nationalities worldwide.
Citizens from:
- European Union countries
- United Kingdom
- United States
- Canada
- Australia
- India
- Many Asian, African, and Latin American countries
can apply online before travel.
Madagascar does not publish a short “limited” list because the e-Visa is broadly available. However, travellers should always check eligibility on the official portal before applying.
How to Apply for a Madagascar e-Visa
The process is simple.
Step 1: Apply Online
Fill out the online application form with your personal and travel details.
Step 2: Upload Documents
You will need:
- A valid passport (at least 6 months’ validity)
- A recent passport-size photo
- Travel details such as flight information
- Accommodation details
Step 3: Pay the Fee
Pay the visa fee online using a card.
Step 4: Receive Approval
Once approved, you receive your e-Visa confirmation by email. You must print it and show it on arrival.
Processing is usually quick, but applying a few days in advance is always safer.
Should You Still Choose the 15-Day Visa?
Here’s the practical question.
If your trip is close to 15 days, the 30-day visa costs just €5 more. In many cases, choosing the 30-day option gives you more flexibility for almost the same price.
For travellers who like buffer days in case of flight changes or itinerary adjustments, that small difference may be worth it.
Madagascar Tourism Is Growing Again
This change comes at a time when Madagascar’s tourism sector is recovering.
In 2025, the country welcomed 330,909 international visitors. That is:
- Higher than 2024, which had 316,873 visitors
- Higher than 2019, before the pandemic, which had 306,284 visitors
There was a slowdown toward the end of 2025 due to political issues and temporary flight suspensions. Some bookings were cancelled.
But by December 2025, visitor numbers started rising again. Tourism is clearly moving upward.
Final Thoughts
Madagascar’s 15-day e-Visa is now more expensive, but entry rules remain simple and accessible.
Tourism numbers are rising again, which suggests confidence is returning. For wildlife lovers, divers, hikers, and nature-focused travellers, Madagascar remains one of the most unique destinations in the Indian Ocean.
