New Delhi: A 23-year-old man died in a road accident in Delhi earlier this month after an SUV allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy collided with his motorcycle. After his initial apprehension by the police, the juvenile driver has since been granted interim bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). The reason stated is reportedly his Class 10 board examinations.
Mother demands justice
The news of the alleged miscreant getting a bail has not gone down well with the victim Sahil Dhaneshra’s mother. Dhaneshra’s mother made an emotional appeal on social media, demanding justice for her son. Writing on social media post X, she wrote, “I lost my son sahil Dhaneshra, a 22+ year old young and most talented boy whom I raised for 23 years alone as a single mom, was killed brutally by a car driver, who is an unlicensed driver and his sister, while making speed fun reels in #dwarka #delhipolice”.”
What was the case?
The accident occurred on February 3, 2026, near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka, New Delhi. It was reported around 11:57 am, with the police finding an SUV, a car, and a motorcycle at the site of the accident. According to Delhi Police, an FIR was registered at Police Station Dwarka South under Sections 281/106(1)/125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after a PCR call regarding the accident was received.
Police then seized all three vehicles involved in the crash and conducted mechanical inspections. CCTV footage from the surrounding area where the accident occurred has also been collected. Preliminary findings suggest that the Scorpio first collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and then rammed into the parked Dzire car on the side of the road. The motorcycle rider, identified as Sahil Dhaneshra, was found dead at the scene and the SUV driver, 17-year-old Akshatra Singh, was apprehended, produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to an observation home.
