Apple Hits Record $9 Billion In India Sales For FY25, Strengthening Its Foothold In A Key Growth Market

In the financial year 2024-25, the iPhone maker raked in nearly $9 billion in revenue from India, according to Bloomberg. That’s up about 13% from the previous year, when Apple reported around $8 billion in sales.

It’s the company’s biggest year yet in India and a sign that Apple is no longer just “interested” in the country. It’s invested.

iPhones Lead the Way But It’s More Than Just Phones

Unsurprisingly, the iPhone led the charge. It remains Apple’s biggest draw in India, a country that’s seen a sharp rise in demand for premium smartphones over the past few years. But it wasn’t just phones – MacBook sales also saw a solid boost, pointing to growing appetite for Apple’s broader ecosystem.

At a time when smartphone sales are flat or falling in many parts of the world, this kind of double-digit growth is gold.

From Optional to Essential

For years, India was seen as a market with potential. Now, it’s one of Apple’s most important frontiers – its fourth-largest market globally, behind only the U.S., China, and Japan. And the timing couldn’t be better.

Apple’s growth in India is helping offset its challenges in China, where demand has been more volatile. Chinese sales managed just 4.4% growth in the June quarter, following two years of decline. India, on the other hand, is clearly in takeoff mode.

Tim Cook’s India Tour Continues

This week, Apple opened two new retail stores: one in Hebbal, Bengaluru, and the other in Koregaon Park, Pune. These join Apple BKC (Mumbai) and Apple Saket (Delhi) as the company’s four official stores in the country.

CEO Tim Cook celebrated the launch personally, posting on X:

“Say hello to Apple Hebbal in Bengaluru and Apple Koregaon Park in Pune! We are thrilled to continue to bring the best of Apple to customers across India at these two new stores.”

More stores are on the way, including one in Noida and another in Mumbai next year. It’s a far cry from just a few years ago when Apple didn’t have any stores in India and relied heavily on third-party retailers.

Made in India, for the World

The retail expansion is one piece of the puzzle – the other is manufacturing.

Apple is now building more of its products in India than ever before. In fact, 1 in every 5 iPhones is now made in India, Bloomberg reports. The company is working with manufacturing partners across five factories, including two newly opened plants.

It’s all part of Apple’s ongoing effort to reduce its reliance on China. That’s not just a supply chain strategy – it’s a long-term investment in India’s role in Apple’s future.

A Quiet but Powerful Shift

Apple’s journey in India started slowly. Its online store didn’t arrive until 2020. The first physical stores came only last year, in 2023. But the momentum since then has been undeniable.

More stores. More resellers. More local production. More iPhones in the hands of Indian consumers.

With a young, tech-hungry population, a rising middle class, and a growing premium segment, India is turning into more than just another market for Apple – it’s becoming a core pillar of its global business.

So, What’s Next?

If Apple can continue riding this wave deepening its retail presence, scaling up local production, and capturing more of the laptop, tablet, and services market, then $9 billion might just be the beginning.

Because the story here isn’t just about record sales. It’s about Apple’s full arrival in India and the company finally treating it like the next big thing it’s always promised to be.
