IMD forecasts cloudy skies in Delhi today, maximum temperature to rise to 31 degrees C

New Delhi: Delhiites will witness a partly cloudy day today (February 17, 2026), with conditions gradually turning generally cloudy towards the afternoon and evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mist during the morning hours. The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 29 degrees C and 31 degrees C, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle between 11 degrees C and 13 degrees C.

Winds will remain light throughout the day. Between 5:30 am and 11:30 am, easterly winds at 0–5 kmph are expected. This will shift to south-easterly winds of 0–5 kmph during the afternoon, before turning north-easterly at similar speeds in the evening.

The IMD has also predicted thunderstorm and lightning activity at isolated places in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Across northwest India, dense to very dense fog was reported at isolated locations in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh. Visibility dropped below 100 metres in several areas, including Bilaspur, Amritsar and Karnal, while Sarsawa IAF reported near-zero visibility.

The lowest minimum temperature in the plains was recorded at 6.6 degrees C in Bhatinda.

Minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2–3 degreesC over the next 48 hours, followed by a similar dip in the subsequent two days.

Delhi AQI today

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 258 at 6 am, placing it in the ‘Poor’ category as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) standards. Under CPCB norms, AQI between 0–50 is considered Good, 51–100 Satisfactory, 101–200 Moderate, 201–300 Poor, 301–400 Very Poor and 401–500 Severe.
