Falgun Amavasya 2026: This year, Amavasya of Phalgun month is going to be celebrated on 17th February. From the religious point of view, the date of Amavasya is considered very special and sacred. There are 12 Amavasyas in a year. Each Amavasya has its own significance explained in the religious scriptures. On Amavasya day, people take bath in holy rivers. Then do charity. Perform puja. It is believed that all these works done on the day of Amavasya yield virtuous results. The date of Amavasya has been dedicated to the ancestors, hence Tarpan and Pind Daan of the ancestors are done on this day.
Also, on the day of Amavasya, some special measures are taken to get rid of Pitra Dosh, due to which one gets freedom from Pitra Dosh. Apart from this, Pitru Nivaran Stotra is recited with devotion on the occasion of Amavasya. According to religious beliefs, reciting Pitra Nivaran Stotra on Amavasya day reduces the effects of Pitra Dosh present in the horoscope. Obstacles coming in life are removed.
