Pitru paksha tarpan vidhi: According to the almanac, Pitrupaksha is starting from 7 September 2025 this year and it will run till 21 September 2025. This is a 15 -day period when the departed ancestors remember and expresses reverence for them. Offering water to the ancestors in Pitrupaksha, also called Tarpan, is a very important religious deed. It is very important to do this action with the right rules so that the souls of the ancestors can get peace and get their blessings. Right direction to offer water
It is very important to take care of the direction while performing. Pitras should always be offered water from the south direction. The south direction is considered the direction of the ancestors.
How to Tarpan? (Correct method)
Bath and purity: Purify yourself by taking a bath before offering it. Wear clean and washed clothes.
Right character: Use copper, brass or silver vessel to offer water. The use of plastic or steel vessels is prohibited.
Use of Kusha and Sesame: The use of Kusha (a type of grass) and black sesame is considered mandatory for tarpan. Black sesame seeds are offered in water.
Hands of Hand: While offering water, the water should be slowly dropped from the vessel by placing Kusha and sesame between your ring finger and thumb. This posture is called Pitrurtirtha.
Flow of water: While offering water, ॐ Pitrubhaya: Namah or Om Pitru Deityabhyo Namah Mantra should be chanting. It is best to flow water near a holy river, pond or reservoir. If this is not possible, then except for a pot or basil plant in the house, water should fall in some place where it is not in vain.
Do not make these mistakes at all?
Tarpan in the wrong direction: Do not offer water in any other direction instead of south.
Failing state: Do not offer offer without bathing and wearing impure clothes.
Iron or steel vessel: Do not use iron or steel utensils for tarpan at all.
Tarpan by wearing shoes and slippers: Never wear shoes and slippers and offer fire.
Importance of Pitrupaksha
Pitrupaksha has special significance in Hinduism. It is believed that during these 15 days, the ancestors come to meet their descendants on earth. During this time, Shraddha, Tarpan and Pindadan performed their soul and they bless their descendants of happiness, prosperity and peace.
