Army doctor who performed emergency delivery only with pocket knife, hair clips at jhansi station praised by army chief

New Delhi: Indian Army Chief Gen. Upendra Dwivedi has applauded Major Bachwala Rohit for his exceptional professionalism and unwavering dedication beyond the call of duty. In a recent incident that took place on July 5, 2025, Major Rohit was travelling to his home town Hyderabad.  While waiting for his train at Virangana Laxmibai Jhansi station, Major Rohit noticed a pregnant woman in severe distress near the lift area. She had fallen from her wheelchair and was in acute labour. With limited time available, the female railway staff secured the area.

Without hesitation, Rohit quickly offered his assistance to the woman and the female railway staff, using the knowledge and tools he had at hand—a pocket knife and hair clips. A dhoti was brought in to cover the delivery area, and the staff also supplied the doctor with gloves to ensure a safe medical procedure. After a successful delivery, the woman and her newborn baby were sent to a nearby hospital.

Major Rohit’s prompt and decisive response, carried out under challenging and resource-constrained conditions, clearly demonstrates his medical expertise, calm under pressure, and steadfast commitment to the core values of the Armed Forces, as the Indian Army aptly highlighted in a tweet. By his swift and prompt action, Major Rohit demonstrated the highest standards of military service.
