Flood relief work by state govt not enough: Hooda

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said the flood control and relief work being done by the BJP government of the state is inadequate.

He said the government should give 100 per cent compensation for the damage caused to the crops by floods.

“Understanding the seriousness of the problems of the people and the danger to life and property, the state government should increase its activity. Today, almost the whole of Haryana has come under the grip of flood and waterlogging. Villages, fields, streets, roads, highways and cities are all submerged,” he stated.

“All affected people are pleading for government help. The government should immediately start the process of special girdawari and give 100 per cent compensation for the damage caused to the crops. Also, the damage caused to houses and shops should be inspected and compensation should be announced soon,” he demanded.

Addressing a press conference in Jind today, he said he is collecting information from all over Haryana. More than half of the districts have been hit by floods and the situation is likely to worsen due to the possibility of rain in the coming days. Hooda said that not only nature, but the scams and inaction of the BJP government are also partly responsible for the floods as this government has been continuously committing scams in the matters of Amrit Yojana, cleanliness and sewerage system.

“Many irregularities have also been revealed in the CAG report. Now, all the villages and cities are facing waterlogging and floods because neither the government got the canals cleaned in time nor the sewerage,” he alleged.

On the question of closing the courses in Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Hooda said 52 per cent of the staff seats in the universities of the state are lying vacant. This is the reason that the universities of the state are continuously lagging behind. “This is the sixth consecutive year when no university of Haryana has been able to make it to the top-100 of the country. The Congress government had built Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University to raise the level of education in Jind and the surrounding districts, but now, the BJP government is continuously closing schools and courses of colleges and universities,” he alleged.

On the question of law and order, the former Chief Minister said crime is at its peak in the state. “It seems that there is no such thing as a government in Haryana. Due to increasing crime, no new investment is coming to the state. Due to lack of investment, Haryana has become number one in unemployment. Uncontrolled crime and unemployment are proving to be a big failure of the BJP government,” he said.
