He came to Surat at the age of 12 from a small village in Amreli district of Gujarat with just Rs 12. According to reports, today Dholakia is the owner of a huge diamond export empire worth more than Rs 15,000 crore. Says he wishes that every one of his employees has their own house and car in the next five years.
He lives with 64 members of three generations in his big house spread over 50 acres. He says that it was his big dream to live together like this. Dholakia is not just a businessman. He has also built many lakes in his village Dudhala and surrounding areas to overcome the water shortage in Gujarat. ‘It is more virtuous to give than to receive’ – this is the mantra of Savji Dholakia’s life.
