IND vs PAK, Handshake Controversy: A great match between India and Pakistan is going to take place today in the group stage of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This match will be played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Before this high-voltage match, once again there is a discussion among the captains regarding handshake. In fact, for some time now, the Indian captain has not been shaking hands with the Pakistani captain at the time of toss, which is usually seen in cricket. In such a situation, a big update has come out on whether Team India will stick to its decision this time too or not.
Big update on handshake controversy
According to media reports, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav is going to avoid shaking hands with Pakistani captain Salman Aga during the toss this time too. The Indian team will not make any changes in its decision. Last year also during the Asia Cup, India had avoided handshake in all three matches against Pakistan. This decision was taken due to the incidents that took place in May last year and the tense situation that followed between the two countries. There was a border clash between India and Pakistan after the death of 26 people in the attack by Pakistani terrorists in Pahalgam. Since then, the situation has not improved, due to which the Indian team has decided to maintain the status quo.
When Suryakumar was asked about this in the press conference a day before the match, he replied jokingly and said, ‘Just wait for 24 hours, everything will be known. Is the match more important or all this? We will end this suspense tomorrow. He stressed that his focus is on the match and he has come to play good cricket. He advised to concentrate on sports instead of discussing too much on handshakes.
Sanjay Manjrekar angry on handshake issue
However, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar termed it as a ‘strange act’ on social media and said that a team like India should avoid such things and play with the spirit of cricket. Sanjay Manjrekar wrote, “The rule of ‘no shaking hands’ that India has started is a very strange act. It does not suit a country like India. According to the spirit of the game, either play properly or do not play at all.’
