A delivery company in China is offering a strange service for those who can’t go home on New Year. Upon payment of the money, the delivery boy will go to the house on behalf of the customer and kneel down to pay obeisance to the elders.

A new service launched by a Chinese delivery company for those who cannot go home to celebrate the New Year is now making waves on social media. This strange proposal is that they can send delivery boys to perform traditional greetings (kotau) to the elders of the house on New Year.

What is this package?

A company named ‘Yuyu Paotui’ from Henan province has offered three different packages through its app. The price of basic package is 39 yuan i.e. around Rs 450. This includes pasting New Year symbols on the doors of the house and light cleaning. The price of the next package is 199 yuan i.e. around Rs 2,300. This includes services like giving gifts to elders, giving good wishes and taking the shagun money given by them and sending it to the owner.

The price of premium package is 999 yuan i.e. around Rs 11,500. This includes the Chinese tradition ‘Kotou’. The delivery boy will bow before the elders by kneeling and bowing his head to the ground. The customer can also watch the ceremony live through video call.

After this service went viral on social media, a huge debate has erupted for and against it. Supporters say it’s a good way to show love to their parents for people who can’t be home because of work. At the same time, opponents say that love and respect cannot be bought with money, and no one else can give the happiness that comes with the arrival of children themselves.
