Kashi Vishwanath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga comes seventh among the 12 major Jyotirlingas. It is believed that one who visits this temple and takes a bath in the holy Ganges, attains salvation and does not have to take another birth. According to Shivpuran, when the entire world gets destroyed during the time of destruction, Kashi remains at its place even at that time. When the doomsday comes, Lord Shankar wears it on his trident and keeps it at its place after the doomsday is over.

Queen Ahilyabai had got the renovation done

During the Mughal period, there were several attacks on the Kashi Vishwanath temple and attempts were made to destroy it.
