Milk Adulteration: Nowadays, milk is an important part of our everyday life. Be it children or elders, be it tea or sweets…food seems incomplete without milk. But increasing demand and greed for profit have raised a big question on the purity of milk. Every day there are reports that water, detergent, chemicals or other harmful substances are being mixed in milk, which can be extremely harmful for health. The most worrying thing is that the common man often does not know whether the milk he is drinking is pure or adulterated.
Adulterated milk not only spoils the taste and nutrition, but it can also cause stomach problems, food poisoning, weakness in children and increase the risk of serious diseases in the long run. This can prove to be even more dangerous especially for children and the elderly. In such a situation, it is very important to know how you can detect adulteration in milk at home. What things are adulterated in milk?
To increase profits in milk, adulterators add many things, which also affects health. According to FSSAI, the most common adulteration in milk is water, which increases the quantity of milk. Adding water dilutes the milk and also reduces its nutrients. Apart from this, dangerous things like detergent or soap, starch, urea, synthetic milk powder and refined oil are added to thicken the milk. Consuming these can cause problems like stomach problems, vomiting and diarrhea.
Try spilling milk on your palm
If you want to detect adulteration in milk, then first take a few drops of milk and place it on your palm and bend the hand slightly. Pure milk will flow slowly and leave a light white residue. But if water or dessert is mixed in the milk then the milk will flow immediately and will not leave any white layer.

You can also check by boiling
Boil milk on gas. When real milk boils, it forms a layer of cream on top. At the same time, if milk has been adulterated, then very little or no cream is formed in the milk. The body does not get any benefit from drinking such milk.
How to check detergent
Put some milk in a bottle or glass and shake it vigorously. If there is a lot of foam and the foam persists for a long time, detergent may have been mixed in the milk. Because in pure milk the foam is very less and gets eliminated quickly.
do iodine test
Cool a few drops of milk and add 23 drops of iodine in it. If the color turns blue or black, starch has been added to the milk. At the same time, if the color does not change then the milk can be considered safe. This method is considered to be the most effective.
Pay attention to taste and aroma
Adulterated milk often has a soapy smell or strange taste. Whereas, the aroma of pure milk can be light and the taste natural.
