New Delhi: Yash’s high-octane action flick Toxic is already stirring storms before hitting screens. Its teaser has drawn fire from the Karnataka Women’s Commission over a steamy sex scene and a Christian group alleging hurt religious feelings.
Now, Karnataka Film Chamber president Dr Jayamala steps in to defend the star and urges fans to hold off judgments. Is Toxic’s buzz turning toxic, or just smart hype?
Yash’s Toxic faces backlash
Yash’s upcoming film, Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, has sparked controversies even before its release. The teaser received mixed reviews from audiences. The Karnataka Women’s Commission objected to an “obscene” sequence showing a sex scene and filed a complaint with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
A Christian group has also lodged a complaint with the CBFC and other authorities. They claim the teaser hurts religious sentiments. These issues have put the film under heavy scrutiny in recent days.
Chamber president’s strong defence
Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Dr Jayamala spoke to reporters on the row. She said public reactions based on just a teaser are unfair to filmmakers. “A teaser is just a glimpse meant to attract audiences to theatres,” Dr Jayamala stated.
Dr Jayamala added that she is unaware of the exact issues raised in complaints. “Discussing the film before it has been reviewed by the censor board is premature,” she emphasised. Filmmakers pour hundreds of crores into projects, so viewers should watch the full movie first, she noted.
Call for patience and process
The president highlighted that Toxic’s producers have denied claims of disrespectful or obscene content. She stressed the film is yet to get CBFC certification ahead of release. Any complaints will go through the proper regulatory channels, she assured.
Dr Jayamala urged everyone to avoid rushing to conclusions. Her comments aim to calm the storm around Yash’s big project. As Toxic gears up, the industry watches how censors and audiences will respond.
