India and Pakistan are going to clash once again on Sunday 15th February at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This will be the fourth time in the last 6 months when these two teams will clash in a T20 tournament. Before this, India-Pakistan had faced each other in Asia Cup 2025, and that too not once but thrice. The shadow of the results of those three matches is going to be on this match, but during this time something else also happened, whose shadow is going to be on this match too – ‘Handshake controversy’. Will that controversy continue here like the match results?

T20 World Cup to be held on Sunday in 2026 India-Pakistan This group match has become more important than before. The old history of both the countries had given this conflict a special place, but the events of the last one year have made the situation more tense. This tension was visible for the first time on the field during the Asia Cup, when the players of both the teams did not shake hands. This time, Pakistan had tried to worsen the deteriorating relations when it had announced boycott of this match against India.

What did the Pakistan captain say on the question of shaking hands?

Pakistan has taken a U-turn on its decision and decided to play the match again but one question is still in everyone’s mind, the direct answer to which has not been received yet – will the players of India and Pakistan join hands this time or will the situation like Asia Cup continue? The same question was asked to Pakistani captain Salman Aga in the press conference and he said that it will be known only tomorrow. Aga said, “It doesn’t matter what I think. Ideally, what should happen is what has always been happening, ever since cricket started. Rest we will see what happens.”

This is how the whole controversy started

Last year, during the Asia Cup, the Indian team had refused to shake hands with Pakistani players. There was a border clash between India and Pakistan after the death of 26 people in the attack by Pakistani terrorists in Pahalgam. Keeping this in mind, the Indian team did not shake hands with Pakistani players in the first match of the tournament. Then this trend continued in all three matches including the final. This situation also persisted in the Women’s World Cup and other tournaments, over which there was huge controversy.
