Indian Railways has decided to provide great relief to crores of its passengers. Till now it was often seen that the cleanliness system in first class or AC coaches was perfect, but the passengers traveling in general coaches were forced to travel amidst filth and smell. But now this picture is going to change completely. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has made it clear that now there will be no discrimination in the matter of cleanliness. Railways has geared up under ‘Reform Plan 2026’, which is going to have a direct impact on the travel of the common man.
Special focus on cleanliness of general coach
Railways has prepared a comprehensive plan, under which 52 major changes (reforms) will be made in the next one year i.e. 52 weeks. This campaign is starting with ‘cleanliness’. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, every coach of the train will now be cleaned during the journey itself. The most important thing is that the General Coach has been given priority in this cleanliness campaign.
It is often seen that the general coach is not connected to the rest of the train (there is no vestibule), due to which the cleaning staff could not reach there in the moving train. This problem has also been solved. Now, during stoppage at the stations, the cleaning staff will come down to the general coach and ensure complete cleanliness of the toilet, dustbin and coach. For this, initially 4-5 trains have been selected in each zone, after which it will be gradually implemented in a group of 80-80 trains.
No negligence in cleanliness, AI will keep an eye every moment
Railways will no longer tolerate mere food supply in the name of cleanliness. The help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being taken to make the cleaning system high-tech. Now after cleaning, the pictures of the coach will be sent directly to a control room, where the AI based system will check whether the cleaning has been done as per the standards or not.
If any deficiency is found in cleaning, immediate action will be taken against the concerned vendor or contractor. Railways has made it clear that in future contracts will be given only to those whose cleaning standards will be the best. Considering the crowd during peak hours, more staff will be deployed and teams will work as per the route. The objective is clear, no matter which category of passenger he is, he should not have to face filth.
New pace of earning from cargo terminals
Not only passenger facilities, Railways has also taken major decisions regarding its earnings and cargo. The contract tenure for Gatishakti Cargo Terminals has now been extended from 35 years to 50 years. This change will increase the confidence of investors and maintain stability in the long run.
In the last three years, 124 cargo terminals have been built across the country, from which Railways has earned a revenue of Rs 20,000 crore. The government aims to build more than 500 Gatishakti cargo terminals in the next five years. With the new reforms, it is estimated that Railways will earn additional income of Rs 30,000 crore in the next three years. This step will not only improve the economic health of Railways, but will also bring a big revolution in the field of logistics.
