Myths related to gut health

Gut health does not mean that it reflects your overall stomach health. There are many things related to the gut, in which intestinal health is the most focused. This includes not only the stomach, but also the small and large intestine, food pipe, liver, pancreas and good bacteria. By the way, many myths regarding this have become popular among the people. The biggest myth among these is that gut health means only the stomach. However, it is not like that. TV9 had a special conversation with Dr. Saad Anwar (Senior Consultant, Gastro Surgery Apollo Spectra Hospital) on this topic.

He says that nowadays the term ‘gut health’ is heard a lot, but there are many misconceptions about it. Let us tell you some important things related to this…

What is gut health? Gut Health

Experts say that gut health does not only mean a healthy stomach, but also includes the balance of good bacteria present in our intestines, proper digestion and proper absorption of nutrients. Experts say that if the food is being digested properly, the nutrients are being absorbed, the stomach remains clean and there is a balance of good bacteria in the intestines, then your gut health is good.

Why is gut health important?

Gut health has a direct connection with our intestines and they are called the second brain of the body. Actually, intestines are connected not only with digestion but also with immunity, mental health and other parts of the body. Know the myths related to gut health from experts

Myth related to detox drink- Dr. Saad Anwar says that people often assume that by taking probiotic supplements daily or drinking detox drinks, gut health will automatically improve, whereas it is not so. Every person’s intestinal needs are different and taking supplements without doctor’s advice is not always beneficial.

Confusion regarding gut- Another myth is that if there is no stomach pain, gas or constipation then the gut is completely healthy, whereas sometimes gut-related problems can occur without obvious symptoms.

Maintain gut health like this- To maintain it better, a balanced diet, adequate fiber, natural probiotic items like curd, adequate water, regular exercise and good sleep are most important.

Role of antibiotics- Also, one should avoid taking antibiotics unnecessarily, as this can affect the good bacteria in the intestines. Instead of ignoring any long-term digestive problem, the best step is to consult a specialist.

Care for gut health with curd- People also believe that if they are eating curd then their gut health will always remain good. This is an excellent source of probiotic but it is not right to rely solely on it. According to experts, to maintain good gut health, a healthy lifestyle through fiber, balanced diet, being physically active and good sleep is necessary.
