T20 World Cup: Ireland outclass Oman to seal commanding win

New Delhi: Ireland skipper Lorcan Tucker produced a masterful unbeaten 94 while Joshua Little picked up three wickets to guide the team to a massive 96-run victory over Oman in T20 World Cup 2026 encounter. Riding on the captain’s fiery 51-ball knock, Ireland piled up the 235 for 5 – the highest team total this edition, before bundling out Oman for 139 runs.

After left-arm Oman spinner Shakeel Ahmed (3/33) jolted Ireland with three top-order strikes, leaving them reeling at 64 for four in the eighth over, Tucker stitched together a vital 70-run partnership with Gareth Delany (56) for the fifth wicket before George Dockrell smashed an unbeaten 35 off just nine balls, studded with five sixes, to propel the team to an imposing total.

Oman tries but fails

Oman side tried their best to chase the improbable score but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, with Aamir Kaleem (50 off 29 balls) and Hammad Mirza (46 off 37) the only batters to showcase some courage in a difficult chase.

After they slumped or 108 for 5 in the 13th over with a dauting target still looming, their chase slowly lost all the momentum and eventually the team folded in 18 overs. At 44 years of age, Kaleem became the oldest batter in the history of the competition to score a half-century.
