Political debate erupts as Congress books Modi’s flight ticket from Assam to Manipur

New Delhi: The Congress party took a sharp political jibe at the BJP, with party leader Pawan Khera urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the violence-hit Manipur state during his Northeast trip.

Modi is currently in Assam to flag off Rs 5,450 crore development projects ahead of the state elections in 2026. Khera said that “poll-bound states are always Modi’s top priority, but since Manipur has been burning since 2023, it should not be abandoned”.

Khera’s remark came after Modi arrived in Assam, as Manipur is just one hour away from Assam, and “The PM’s presence can go a long way in reassuring our people in Manipur,” the Congress leader added.

Congress books flight ticket for PM

Khera also claimed that his party even booked a flight from Guwahati to Imphal for the Prime Minister. He shared the photo of the booked flight on his social media and urged the PM to make a visit to Manipur.

The Congress leader made a veiled jab by stating, “To make it easier for you, we have even booked your flight from Guwahati to Imphal; you just have to get on the plane. As I do not have your number, I am sharing your flight ticket here. Kindly use it and show that the ‘PM CARES’.”

The social media post of Khera immediately drew attention online as the public demanded a Prime Ministerial visit to the state.

Unrest in Manipur

Manipur has been witnessing major tensions since 2023; the opposition targeted the Central government for not handling the state properly and demanded direct intervention from PM Modi to control the situation.

BJP always showed that their efforts are underway to restore peace in the state, but now with Modi in Assam and Khera’s remark on Modi visiting Manipur, the debate has also sharpened that the central government is not handling the situation properly.

The Prime Minister’s Office didn’t take any immediate response to the Congress leader’s remark.
