solar eclipse 2026
Surya Grahan 2026: In Indian culture and Sanatan Dharma, solar and lunar eclipses are considered to have deep spiritual significance. Some special rules are followed during the eclipse. During the eclipse, special attention is paid to Sutak period, eating rules and purification. Generally, every day people offer Arghya i.e. water to the Sun God to seek his blessings.
According to beliefs, offering Arghya to the Sun every day removes the negativity from life, but at the time of solar eclipse, this question always arises in the minds of people whether Arghya can be offered to the Sun God during this time or not. In such a situation, let us know whether it is right or wrong to offer Arghya to the Sun during a solar eclipse. What do the scriptures say about this?
It is prohibited to give water to the Sun during solar eclipse.
Offering water to Lord Sun in the morning has been a part of daily routine since Vedic times. It is said in astrology that offering water to the Sun in a copper pot increases a person’s self-confidence. Health remains good and Sun is strong in the horoscope, but during the eclipse period the situation changes completely. According to religious principles and astrological calculations, it is prohibited to offer Arghya to the Sun at the time of solar eclipse.
It is believed that at the time of eclipse the influence of Rahu-Ketu increases, due to which the positive energy of the Sun is disrupted. Offering water at such a time can have adverse effects on life instead of auspicious results. Arghya is offered by looking at the Sun, but from both religious and scientific point of view, looking at the Sun during eclipse is considered harmful and inauspicious for the eyes. It is prohibited to perform puja during Sutak period before the time of eclipse.
When will the first solar eclipse of 2026 occur?

This will be an annular solar eclipse, which is also called ‘Ring of Fire’. On February 17, the solar eclipse will occur at 03:26 pm. It will end at 07:57 pm.
