Why World Order Is Breaking After Seven Decades – PM Modi Explains at ET Now GBS 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that India will contribute to global growth as after 7 decades the world order is breaking down because the foundation was based on one size fits all.

The Prime Minister said that it was assumed that supply chains will be firm and nations were seen only as contributors and now they are realising the need for self reliance. Addressing ET Now’s Global Business Summit 2026, PM Modi said that when their government was elected, they decided that not one single economic model will be followed and even in these times of disruption, the Indian economy has marched forward.

Previous Govts Did Reforms Under Compulsion, But We Have Conviction: PM Modi

Reflecting upon how India is focussing on reforms, PM Modi said that the reform express is speeding not under any compulsion but because of conviction. “You have seen the period before 2014 unless there is a forced situation, there would be no reforms.”

“When power sector faced challenges, grids structure started to fail, only then power sector reforms were brought,” PM Modi said while hitting out at previous government during the Congress-led era.

He further said that reforms not just in policy process and delivery but mindset also saw change.

PM Modi Shares Interesting Anecdote on Cabinet Notes

Sharing an interesting chapter from his government working style, PM Modi said that they talk about a process of cabinet notes. “One cabinet note would earlier take months. We changed the process and said one note will not stay on an officer’s table for more than so many hours, either reject or approve and take a decision, and the results can be seen.”

Speaking further, PM Modi said that earlier in border areas, even for a normal road, permission was required from Delhi, which is why decades later there was lack of development in these areas. “We have fast-tracked procedures in these projects.”
