Dal Locho Recipe

Vegetarian people often want to eat such dishes which are rich in nutrients as well as taste. If you are a fitness freak then it seems that fulfilling the protein deficiency is a task for vegetarian people, but there are many vegetarian foods which are a treasure trove of protein and you can prepare and eat delicious things from them. One such dish is Dal Locho. Its taste is slightly creamy and melts in the mouth. This is a great comfort dish which can be fed even to small children. The story behind making this dish is also very interesting which has been shared by Chef Bhupi i.e. Bhupendra Singh Rawat.

Chef explains that during the preparation of Khamdar, when Locha becomes loose i.e. Khamdar gets spoiled then Dal Locho is made. Pulses are a good source of protein. Curd has also been used in this. This is also a source of protein. Apart from this, this dish will be prepared in steam, hence nutrients will also be available in abundance. So let’s see the recipe of Dal Locho.

Ingredients of Locho

Chana dal 1 cup, Urad dal 2 tbsp, Poha ½ cup, Curd ½ cup, Sugar 1 tsp, Coriander leaves (including stalk) ½ cup, Mint leaves ¼ cup, Ginger 1 inch piece, Green chilli 3-4, Salted sev ½ cup, Cumin 1 tsp, Black pepper 1 tbsp, Roasted cumin 1 tsp, Dry mango powder 1 tbsp, Kashmiri red Chilli powder 1 tsp, black salt as per taste, salt as per taste, ice cubes 2-3

Ingredients to be added later

Water as per requirement, ginger-garlic paste 1 tsp, turmeric powder ½ tsp, filtered oil 2 tsp, Eno fruit salt as per requirement. Now know the recipe of Dal Locho.

How to make Dal Locho?

  • First of all, after washing chana dal and urad dal, soak them for four to five hours.
  • Take out the soaked lentils from the water and separate them. Put poha in a sieve and wash it with water.
  • Now put both dal and poha in a jar and grind them. You have to make a light coarse paste from this.
  • After grinding the lentils, take them out in a big bowl and then add curd to it and mix it with a whisker and also add some sugar.
  • Now cover the dal and keep it aside so that it gets fermented. This takes a few hours. Till then you can do some other household work. Or do the process of pulses at night.
  • For chutney, put green coriander, mint, ginger pieces, green chillies, gram flour sev, cumin seeds, salt in the grinder and also add ice cubes.

Dal Locho

  • Mix all the ingredients and make a smooth paste. In this way your tasty chutney will be prepared which is served with Locha.
  • Now prepare a tempting masala by crushing all these things like black pepper, cumin, dry mango powder, salt, black salt, Kashmiri red chilli powder,
  • Dal gets fermented in 4 to 5 hours. Mix it well once and then add water. You have to make a thick solution of it.
  • Now you have to add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, salt, a little oil to the dal and mix. Then add Eno to it and mix.
  • Keep the water to boil and on the other side, take a steam tray, spread a banana leaf in it and then grease it with oil.
  • Now keep the prepared lentil batter for steaming. You have to cover it and cook it for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • When the dal is ready to be cooked in steam, take it out in a plate and pour some peanut oil over it.
  • Now sprinkle the dry masala you had grinded over the dal and also add the green chutney you had prepared.
