How special is the world’s largest python?

Frentiu says, “I have never seen such a big snake before. This snake can easily swallow a calf.”Frentiu is a history photographer and has been living in Bali, Indonesia for the last two decades. He says, he has seen many big snakes, but Ibu Baron has broken everyone’s record. Guinness World Records recently confirmed that Ibu Baron was discovered in the Maros region of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Frentiu learned about the giant python from Diaz Nugraha, a wildlife guide, rescuer and licensed snake trainer. Together they traveled to Sulawesi so that they could see him and measure his height. On January 18, Frentiu and Nugraha weighed and measured Ibu Baron. Documented the entire process through photographs and videos to make it transparent. Its total length from head to tail was measured at 23 feet and 8 inches. The weight of the python was also 96 kg and this weight was on an empty stomach.

Frentieu says the snake’s actual length may be even greater, because it was not anesthetized when measurements were taken. When unconscious, the snake’s muscles completely relax, due to which its length can increase by 10 to 15 percent more.
