Employees Provident Fund Organization
EPFO: For employed people, Provident Fund (PF) is not just a savings, but a guarantee of future security. Every month a part of our salary is deducted and deposited in this account, which comes in handy in difficult times or after retirement. But, many times it happens that we are in dire need of money, we decide to withdraw PF, and then we realize that we have forgotten our Universal Account Number (UAN). Without UAN, leave alone logging into the PF account, even checking the balance becomes impossible. If you are also struggling with the same problem, then there is no need to panic. EPFO has made the solution to this problem very easy.
UAN is the ‘key to the safe’ for salaried people
UAN number is the identification of your PF account. No matter how many jobs you change, this number remains the same. Often people forget to note it in their diary or this number gets lost when old messages are deleted. Without UAN, the process of PF withdrawal or transfer cannot be started. The good news is that in this era of technology, you no longer need to visit the HR department for this. You can retrieve it while sitting at home with the help of your smartphone or laptop. For this, Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has provided both online and offline facilities.
Solution will be available on website in few minutes
If you have a smartphone and internet access, then recovering UAN is very easy. For this, first of all you have to go to the Unified Member Portal of EPFO. On the right side of the homepage of the website, you will see the section of ‘Important Links’. Here at the bottom, the option of ‘Know Your UAN’ is available.
By clicking on this link a new page will open. Here you have to enter the mobile number which is linked to your PF account. Fill the captcha code for security and request for OTP. A One Time Password (OTP) will come on your mobile, as soon as you enter it the system will verify you. After this another form will open where you will have to give information like your name, date of birth and Aadhaar or PAN number. As soon as you click on ‘Show My UAN’, your lost number will start flashing on your screen.
Don’t have internet? The work can also be done through SMS
Many times we are in a place where the network is slow or the internet is not working. EPFO has also taken care of this. You can know your UAN number even without internet by just sending an SMS. This facility is a boon for those who do not want to get into the trouble of technology or websites.
For this you will have to send a message from your registered mobile number. Go to your message box and type ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG’. Keep in mind that the last three letters (ENG) are for your language. If you want information in English then write ENG. Send this message to number 7738299899. Shortly after sending the message, a reply will come from EPFO, in which your UAN number will be present.
