Story of Vijaya Ekadashi in Hindi
In Tretayuga, King Shri Ram of Ayodhya was exiled for 14 years and he came to live in Panchavati with his brother Lakshman and wife Sita. During that time, finding Goddess Sita alone, Ravana, the king of demons, abducted Goddess Sita. While searching for his wife, Shri Ram met the wandering monkey king Sugriva and befriended him.

Hanuman, a devotee of Shri Ram, went to Lanka to find Goddess Sita and after coming back told her the whole story. After knowing about Goddess Sita, Shri Ram went towards Lanka with his army of monkeys and bears, but after seeing the bottomless sea in between, he said to Lakshman, ‘How will our army cross such a huge sea?’
Nearby was the ashram of sage Vakadalbhya, Shri Ram went to him and told him about this dilemma. Then Vakdalbhya Rishi asked Shri Ram to fast on Vijaya Ekadashi of Phalgun month and said, ‘By fasting on this Ekadashi, even the most difficult tasks can be done easily.’
As per the advice of sage Vakdalbhya, the entire army including Shri Ram observed fast on Vijaya Ekadashi. Due to the effect of this fast, Shri Ram reached Lanka with his army and killed Ravana there. In this way, whoever observes the fast of Vijaya Ekadashi with complete rituals, even difficult tasks are done with ease.
