Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday announced that ₹5,000 has been credited directly into the bank accounts of 1.31 crore women beneficiaries under the flagship Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (Women’s Rights) scheme. The amount includes the February installment of ₹1,000, advance payments for March and April (₹3,000), and a special summer allocation of ₹2,000 — totalling ₹5,000 credited in a single tranche.
“No Matter Who Imposes Obstacles”: Stalin Defends Advance Payment Amid Election Buzz
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister asserted that the advance payment was made to protect beneficiaries from any potential disruption in fund flow during the election period. “Using elections as an excuse, they are trying to stall the rights allocation for three months. What was promised was by our #DravidianModel government!” he stated, indirectly targeting opposition parties and the Election Commission’s model code of conduct concerns. He declared, “No matter who imposes obstacles, I will not back down from it.”
Promise for 2.0: Doubling Monthly Assistance to ₹2,000
In a significant pre-poll announcement, Stalin also unveiled his government’s commitment under a proposed ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’ —should the DMK return to power. “In #DravidianModel 2.0, we will raise the ₹1,000 rights allocation to ₹2,000 and provide it! This is the promise given by this Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin to my sisters!” he declared. The pledge effectively doubles the existing flagship welfare scheme, positioning it as a cornerstone of the DMK’s 2026 Assembly election campaign.
“With the support of Winning Tamil Women, we will win next time too!”
Expressing confidence in the electoral dividend of the welfare measure, Stalin signed off with the hashtag #WeWillWin_Together! , framing the direct benefit transfer not merely as a social welfare initiative but as a political compact with the state’s women voters.
