New Delhi: The Men in Blue are battling with health issues and injuries in the ongoing 10th edition of the T20 World Cup. Ahead of India’s match against Namibia in New Delhi, Abhishek Sharma has been all but ruled out of the game after a stomach infection.
He was hospitalised due to the issue and was discharged on Wednesday, February 11. It is highly likely that team management will give him rest for India’s second group A match against Namibia. The Men in Blue will take on arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, February 15.
Reason behind Abhishek Sharma’s stomach upset and severe weight loss
According to the TOI report, Abhishek has lost a significant amount of weight due to dehydration, which happened due to a stomach problem. His health issue began in Mumbai on February 6, after India’s net session at the Wankhede Stadium.
The report further added that the Indian opener ate something that caused an upset stomach. His health got worse on the matchday, but Abhishek decided to play that game. However, Ali Khan removed the opener for a golden duck. Throughout the match, he didn’t sit in the dugout and also didn’t walk out to shake hands with the USA after a 29-run victory.
The stomach infection led to high fever and severe weight loss. He travelled with the team to New Delhi, where his health worsened. He was admitted to the Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi for medical care.
On the eve of the match against Namibia, India batter Tilak Varma confirmed that Abhishek has been discharged from the hospital and is doing well.
“When we reached Delhi, he (Abhishek) had been examined. He went to the hospital for the examination. So I think he has been discharged today, and he’s doing well. We have got one more day for the game, so hopefully we’ll decide by tomorrow (Thursday) how he feels, and we’ll go with it,” Tilak said during the pre-match press conference in Delhi on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the reports suggest that Sanju Samson is likely to replace Abhishek in India’s second match against Namibia in New Delhi.
