In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old YouTuber allegedly slit his father’s throat while he was sleeping in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district. This was the result of years of domestic strife and his father’s anger over social media.
The accused Geeta Kewat (27) has been arrested for the murder of her father Ashok Kumar Kewat (55). According to the police, the murder was the result of long-running domestic tension and property disputes.
Ashok had been living alone for almost eight years, while his wife and three daughters lived separately following repeated family feuds. Police and relatives said that frequent arguments and Ashok’s alleged habit of fighting had soured relations within the family.
Eldest daughter Geeta was active on social media and ran a YouTube channel, where she spoke on topics considered socially sensitive. Police say her father did not like her online presence at all and often questioned her involvement in creating content, leading to confrontations.
On February 9, Ashok’s wife and daughters had returned to the village in connection with land compensation matters and were staying there when tensions flared up again.
Around 2 am on Tuesday, when Geeta was working on content for her channel, a heated argument allegedly broke out between the father and daughter. During this, Ashok allegedly used derogatory language for her.
Police said Geeta then allegedly picked up a sickle and attacked her father, causing injuries to his jaw, neck and other parts of the body, killing him on the spot.
He allegedly went outside and told relatives that he had killed his father.
Hardi Bazar station in-charge Pramod Dadsena said that immediately after receiving information about the crime, the police reached the spot and took Geeta into custody. The body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family.
ASP Lakhan Patle said preliminary investigation revealed that Ashok was a ‘habitual drunkard’, who often behaved aggressively under the influence of alcohol.
Further investigation is ongoing.
