Uttar Pradesh Health Budget 2026: In the UP budget, Yogi government has made a provision of Rs 14,997 Cr for the medical education-health sector. Rs 315 crore has been provided for 14 new medical colleges, cancer institute, Rs 130 crore for trauma center expansion and free treatment.

UP Budget 2026-27 Medical Education Boost: Yogi government has laid special emphasis on strengthening medical education, research and health services in the budget for the financial year 2026-27. The government has made a huge provision of Rs 14,997 crore for the development of medical education. This step is considered to give a new direction to the health sector of the state. This will increase the number of medical colleges, increase seats and expand trauma care, research and student facilities.

81 medical colleges operational, Rs 1,023 crore for 14 new medical colleges

At present a total of 81 medical colleges are operating in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 45 are being operated by the government and 36 by the private sector. Through these colleges, medical education and health services have reached 60 districts of the state. In the districts which are currently deprived of medical colleges, new medical colleges will be established under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) model. A provision of Rs 1,023 crore has been made in the budget for the establishment and operation of 14 new medical colleges. This will also provide employment opportunities to the local youth and better health services will be available at the regional level.

315 crores to Cancer Institute Lucknow, 359 crores to SGPGI

The government has made special provisions for the treatment of serious diseases and to strengthen research. Lucknow-based Cancer Institute has been given Rs 315 crore, so that cancer treatment and research can be further improved. Apart from this, Rs 359 crore has been allocated for the expansion of quaternary health care facilities in SGPGI. With this, state-of-the-art medical services will be available to the patients.

Provision of Rs 130 crore for free medical facilities

The government has made a provision of Rs 130 crore to provide relief to patients suffering from incurable and serious diseases. This amount will help in providing free treatment to poor and needy patients. This will reduce the financial burden of expensive treatment and more people will be able to get timely treatment.

Promotion of pharma and medical device research, provision of Rs 1500 lakh

Special schemes have also been proposed to encourage research in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. High-level research on vaccines, medicines and diagnostic equipment will be conducted in collaboration with large medical institutions and industries. For this, a provision of Rs 500 lakh has been made in the financial year 2026-27 and Rs 1,000 lakh under another incentive scheme. This will promote health technology and medical innovation in the state.

Construction of hostel and 300 bed hospital for medical students

A provision of Rs 5,000 lakh has been made for expansion of hostel facilities for the students studying in 27 medical colleges of Phase-1, 2 and 3 established under central schemes. A budget of Rs 5,000 lakh has also been set for the construction of 300-bed hospitals attached to these medical colleges. With this, patients will be able to get better treatment at the local level.

Special focus on trauma care, new level-2 trauma centers will be built.

Trauma care has also been given priority to deal with road accidents and emergencies. Rs 2,500 lakh has been proposed for the construction of Trauma Center Level-2 in Government Medical Colleges. At present, Level-2 Trauma Centers are functioning in 5 autonomous state medical colleges of Ayodhya, Firozabad, Hardoi, Chandauli and Deoria. An additional provision of Rs 5,000 lakh has been made to set up Level-2 Trauma Centers in the remaining 22 medical colleges.
