Many big provisions have been made in the UP Budget 2026-27 including Rs 170 crore for sports colleges in each division, preparation for Olympics 2032-36, MP-MLA sports event and Major Dhyanchand Sports University. The aim of the government is to make the state a center of sports talent.
Lucknow. In the budget for the financial year 2026-27, a detailed plan has been presented to prepare the players of the state for the international platform. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said that the Yogi government has taken concrete steps to take the sports sector to new heights. The objective of this scheme is to provide better training and facilities to talented players keeping in mind the 2032 and 2036 Olympics.
Sports colleges will become centers of excellence in every division.
The government has decided that one sports college will be established in each division of the state. These colleges will be developed as centers of excellence, so that players can get international level training facilities. An initial budget provision of Rs 80 crore has been made for this. This step is being considered important towards making Uttar Pradesh a strong center of sports talent.
Provision of Rs 20 crore for MP-MLA sports competition
MP/MLA sports competition will be organized at the rate of Rs 3 lakh per assembly constituency in 403 assembly constituencies of the state and Rs 10 lakh per parliamentary constituency in 80 parliamentary constituencies. A total budget of Rs 20 crore has been set for this event. Its objective is to bring forward sports talents from village to village and city to city.
170 crores to Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut
A total provision of Rs 170 crore has been made for the development of Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut. In this-
- Rs 80 crore for new building construction and development works
- Rs 30 crore for creation of capital assets
- Rs 60 crore for conducting educational and sports activities
This budget will help in making the university a major center of modern sports education and training.
Modernization of Greenpark Stadium Kanpur
A budget of Rs 45 crore is proposed for the upgradation and modernization of Greenpark International Cricket Stadium in Kanpur. With this amount, the stadium will be redeveloped and equipped with modern facilities, so that it can be facilitated in organizing national and international matches.
Aim to make UP a new hub of sports talent
The aim of the Yogi government is that the players of Uttar Pradesh should hoist the country’s tricolor on the international platform. At present three sports colleges are operating in the state-
- Veer Bahadur Singh Sports College, Gorakhpur
- Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow
- Saifai Sports College
Through new schemes, these institutions will be further strengthened and by establishing new sports colleges, the state will be made a major center of sports talent.
