New Delhi: West Indies exhibited a strong all-round effort to crush England by 30 runs in their T20 World Cup 2026 Group C encounter on Wednesday. By virtue of this win, West Indies team bagged their second victory in the row solidifying their position for Super Eight qualification while the English side suffered their first loss.
West Indies had beaten Scotland in their opening World Cup clash while England survived a scare to beat Nepal by 4 runs in their opener. Chasing a target of 197, the English team folded for 166 runs in 19 overs as Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase starred with three wickets and two wickets apiece.
Bowlers make life hell for England
Apart from these two bowlers, Romario Shepherd, Shamar Joseph and Akeal Hosein also made life tough for the English batters claiming one wicket apiece. For England, Sam Curran played an unbeaten knock of 43 runs and stayed at the crease till the end but failed to take the side across the finish line.
Jacob Bethell and Phillip Salt also put in efforts in the chase with scores of 33 and 30 respectively but failed to convert it into match-winning scores. Jos Buttler succumbed for just 21 runs while rest of the batters did not showcase any courage in the chase.
Earlier in the first innings, Sherfane Rutherford played an unbeaten knock of 76 in just 42 balls to steer the side while batting. Roston Chase and Jason Holder also contributed in the first-innings total with scores of 33 and 30 respectively.
