New Delhi: In a dramatic turn in the Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, a man named Mohan surrended before a court on Wednesday, claiming that he was driving the vehicle when the accident took place. He also said that Shivam Mishra, the son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra, was in the passenger seat at the time of the mishap.
Mohan, flanked by lawyers, spoke to reporters outside the court. He claimed that he was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, while Shivam was sitting beside him. He further claimed that Shivam had suffered a seizure.
What the tobacco tycoon had said
He made the claims a day after KK Mishra denied his son’s role in the accident, and said that Shivam was not driving the luxury car when the accident occurred.
On Tuesday, Mishra had told the media that a driver and Shivam were inside the car but had said he was not sure who was behind the wheel.
He remarked: “I don’t know who was driving the car. It will be investigated.” Mishra had also said that the car had developed a technical issue a day before and was taken out for testing after repairs.
What the police said
But Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal had said investigators have found that Shivam Mishra was driving the car. Initially, an FIR was filed against unknown persons, but Shivam’s name was added later as the probe picked up momentum.
A video has gone viral in which Shivam can be seen being carried away from the wrecked vehicle by some bouncers. In the CCTV footage, private security bouncers were seen running at the scene immediately after the car came to a halt. The footage belies the claims made by KK Mishra and Mohan.
Eyewitness had also said that private bouncers accompanying the accused were present and misbehaved with the crowd that gathered around the car. They even tried onlookers to record the incident.
What Mishra’s lawyer said
Earlier, Mishra’s lawyer had said that his client was not behind the wheel, contending that the Lamborghini was being driven by a hired driver. The family had also said that Shivam has epilepsy. Authorities have ordered medical examinations following this claim.
On Tuesday, Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal had confirmed that the local station house officer, Santosh Gaur, had been removed from his post for failing to follow due procedure after the accident.
