The match played on Wednesday 11 February at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad saw the first double super over in the history of the tournament. In the second super over, South Africa scored 23 runs in 6 balls and gave Afghanistan a target of 24 runs.
Gurbaz hit 3 sixes in a row, but could not win
In reply, Afghanistan team lost the wicket of Mohammad Nabi on the very second ball. After this Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit three consecutive sixes on the third, fourth and fifth balls. However, he was out on the last ball and the team could not reach the target.

At one time the match was within Afghanistan’s control
Noor Ahmed turned the match towards Afghanistan by hitting a six on 19.2 balls. Now 5 runs were needed from 4 balls. The next ball was a dot, but again there was a no-ball at 19.4, on which Noor took two runs. Now only 2 runs were needed on the last 3 balls. On the next ball, Noor played a shot towards long-off and an easy two-run opportunity was created. But Fazalhaq Farooqui slowed down while taking the second run. Showing speed, Rabada picked up the ball and dropped the bails. Replays clearly showed that Farooqui’s bat was in the air, due to which he was declared run-out. From here the match changed.

For South Africa, Ryan Rickelton played brilliant innings of 61 runs and Quinton de Kock played brilliant innings of 59 runs. David Miller remained unbeaten after scoring 20 runs. For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai took 3 wickets, Rashid Khan took 2 wickets and Fazalhaq Farooqui took 1 wicket.

While chasing the target of 188 runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored the highest score of 84 runs for Afghanistan. However the team could not win. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 3 wickets for 26 runs. He was chosen Player of the Match for his excellent performance.
