The story of Laddu Maar Holi played in Shreeji Temple of Barsana is very interesting. This Lathmar is celebrated just a day before Holi.

mythology

It is believed that in the Dwapar era, when Lord Krishna sent one of his friends (cowboys) from Nandgaon to Barsana with an invitation for Holi, Radha Rani’s father accepted him. On this happy occasion, Radha ji’s friends poured gulal on the cowherd. When he was given laddus to eat, he jumped with joy and laughingly the cowherds started throwing laddus at each other. Even today, in this memory, the servants of the temple shower laddus on the devotees from the attic of the palace. Devotees receive these as Prasad and enjoy the festival by dancing and singing.

How did it start?

According to the stories, Kanha along with his friends used to go from Nandgaon to Barsana to play Holi. There he used to tease and harass Radha ji and her friends. In response to this, the Gopis used sticks to lovingly scare them and drive them away.

Even today this tradition is followed in the same manner. The men of Nandgaon come to Barsana and the women of Barsana beat them with sticks. Men protect themselves with shields. The special thing is that even after so many lathis, there is no bitterness in anyone’s mind, rather the echo of ‘Radhe-Radhe’ is heard all around.
