Kamini Kannan, who returned to India in 2021 after living in UAE for 23 years, had gone to Dubai to attend a wedding. There, Kamini’s sleeping bag gets torn, so they decide to buy a new bag. Before keeping the gold in the new bag, he put four 22 carat gold coins of 8 grams each and a 24 carat gold biscuit of 50 grams each in a bag and kept it on the dining table.

While cleaning the house, his son Abhimanyu threw the sleeping bag into the dustbin without recognizing it, considering it as garbage. The next morning Kamini realized that her sleeping bag was missing. Then the son told them that he had thrown it in the dustbin. They informed the building owner, but nothing was found. The price of gold was around 50,000 dirhams (about Rs 13 lakh). He thought that now the gold would not be returned, so he did not even complain to Dubai Police.

On the third day, Abhimanyu received an unknown call. Later, on reaching the police station, Abhimanyu came to know how his gold was returned without any complaint.

Subsequently, police officials received information and interrogated the employee. He told the police that he had found the gold from the garbage. Using garbage collection records, police identified the building where the sleeping bag was found. With the help of the building’s security cameras, the police found Abhimanyu’s flat and handed over the gold to him.
