Guyana politician stuns Parliament with fiery speech in Hindi

New Delhi: An unexpected exchange took place in Guyana’s Parliament when a Member of Parliament, Vikash Ramkisoon, delivered a strong Hindi speech after an opposition lawmaker raised questions on his language knowledge.

The opposition member stated that Ramkisoon didn’t understand Hindi, and in response, Ramkisoon obtained the speaker’s permission to respond in Hindi to address the opposition’s question directly.

‘Vishey woh tay karein, main jawab dunga bina Kagaz dekhey’ (They decide the topic, I will respond without using a paper), Ramkisoon said.

Ramkisoon addressed the House by challenging the opposition to debate on any subject at any place. Additionally, he said the debate could be held on any television channel, and he is ready to respond in Hindi without reading from notes or papers.

Ramkisoon’s remarks drew attention outside Parliament, particularly among the Indian-origin community across the globe. The High Commission of India in Georgetown, Guyana, posted the video on their social media, and immediately several accounts reshared the clip.

Ramkisoon’s demonstration of Hindi in the Parliament highlighted the cultural representation and linguistic diversity in governance. Guyana seeks a descendant Indian-origin population in which Hindi remains culturally important among the community.
