Pitru Paksha Start Date: Donation has special significance during Pitru Paksha. But donating some things is considered taboo. According to beliefs, by doing this, our ancestors get angry, as well as bringing some things home or buying is not considered auspicious.
Pitru paksha 2025: September 17 means starting today and 2 October will end on Sarvapitra Amavasya. According to religious beliefs, charity is considered to be of special importance in Pitra Paksha or Shraddha Paksha, which gives the blessings of the ancestors. It is said that in these 15 days of Pitra Paksha, you must donate in the name of your ancestors, which leads to great virtue. But, apart from this, there are some things that should not be donated to the ancestral side. So let’s know about those things.
- Iron utensils should never be donated in the ancestral side. Apart from this, you can also donate brass, gold and silver utensils if you want.
- The use of things or objects made of leather is prohibited in the ancestral side. It is believed that the use of leather in the ancestral side is very inauspicious.
- In addition, donating old clothes on the ancestral side is also not considered auspicious. Brahmins should always donate new clothes during Pitru Paksha.
- The use of black in Hindu worship and all rituals is prohibited and is also considered inauspicious. So avoid donating black clothes or blankets during Pitru Paksha.
- No type of oil should be donated during Pitru Paksha. Especially during Shraddha Paksha, mustard oil should not be donated.
- During the Shraddha Paksha, only pure and fresh food should be offered to the ancestors. Pitras should not be given to the ancestors even after forgetting the remaining or thrown food.
- During the Pitru Paksha, vegetables that grow under the ground like carrots, radish and turnip should not be donated.
- Donating salt during Pitru Paksha is also prohibited.
- Donating lentils during Shraddha is not auspicious. This not only causes ancestors, but also creates planetary defects.
- Plastic items should not be donated during Pitru Paksha.
Do not purchase these things in Pitru Paksha
According to religious beliefs, only the tarpan and charity of the ancestors during the Pitru Paksha is considered auspicious. Any new work, celebration or shopping can give inauspicious results. In such a situation, we should avoid buying a new house, roof should not be set up, should avoid buying gold and silver. During this time it is not considered auspicious to start a new account or a new business. Marriage and other auspicious functions should also be avoided.

Pitra Paksha Tarpan Method
Take a judi before sunrise every day and place it under the Peepal tree in the south direction. Fill a little Ganges water in a lotus and plain water in the rest. Add some milk, sugar, black sesame and barley to the lotus. Pour water 108 times with a spoon on Kusha Judi and keep chanting this mantra on every teaspoon of water.
Take these measures to please the ancestors
If an animal and bird come to your house during Pitru Paksha, then they must have food. It is believed that ancestors come to meet you in these forms. During the ancestral side, eat in the leaf plate and if the Brahmins also eat food in the leaf plate, then it is fruitful.
