BCCI stops players from staying with families during T20 World Cup – Report

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has barred the players from staying with their families during the T20 World Cup 2026, mentions a report in the Indian Express. Though defending champions India started off their World Cup campaign with a win against the USA but the performance was not that convincing.

It is further being learnt that the Indian team management reached out to the top brass in the BCCI regarding the request but they were not at all entertained as the Indian cricket board decided to stick to the policy decided previously. The policy came into effect from the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy which India lost and has since been in place.

What does BCCI policy say?

As per BCCI’s official policy, the Indian cricket players have been allowed to stay with their families for a maximum of 14 days (two weeks) provided an away tour lasting for more than 45 days. Since the T20 World Cup, which began on February 7, lasts till March 8 making it a total of just 30 days so the criteria does not fit in it.

Meanwhile, the board has made it clear that the families won’t stay with the players but if at all they decide to travel, they are permitted to separate arrangements. It is further being learnt in the report that the team would be travelling on a private charter throughout the tournament and the players have the privilege to take their personal chefs with them but they also won’t be staying in the same hotel.

They have been booked in the nearest hotel possible where they can cook food and send it over to the Indian players. Meanwhile, after starting off the marquee event with a win, India will next face Namibia in New Delhi on February 12, Thursday before engaging in the high-octane clash against traditional rivals Pakistan on February 15, Sunday in Colombo.
