Datia (Madhya Pradesh): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashutosh Tiwari has filed his nomination papers for Datia by-election. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, senior party leader Narottam Mishra and state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal were also present with him while filing the nomination on Monday.
Despite being denied ticket from this seat, former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra joined the nomination of the BJP candidate. Narottam Mishra became emotional and had tears in his eyes during Ashutosh Tiwari’s rally before nomination.
Ashutosh attacked Digvijay Singh as soon as he filed his nomination.
- After filing his nomination, Tiwari told ANI, “I have full faith in the party leadership and I will try my best to live up to their expectations.” When asked about Congress state president Jitu Patwari’s claim of a bumper victory for the party, the BJP candidate said, “The Congress leader has his own claims.
- The BJP candidate also took a dig at veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh. Tiwari said, “Madhya Pradesh has suffered Digvijay Singh as a loss, there is no question of him (Congress) being accepted. Narottam Mishra is our guardian and a senior leader of the party. We all work under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and will contest the elections. There is no contest here and all the voters of Datia are with development.”
What did Ashutosh say on Narottam’s anger?
- Earlier, Narottam Mishra had dismissed speculations of resentment over not getting the ticket, saying he had “no grudge” against anyone and would abide by the party’s decision.
- It is noteworthy that when BJP declared Ashutosh Tiwari as its candidate for Datia Assembly by-election, Mishra’s supporters had blocked National Highway-44 on Friday evening. Mishra had lost this seat in the 2023 assembly elections.
- Mishra, a three-time MLA from Datia, had said that he would convince party workers to participate in the nomination of the BJP candidate and will fulfill whatever responsibility the party gives him.
- Whereas, Congress has fielded Kunwar Ghanshyam Singh from this seat.
