ESIM Fraud Alert: By hacking SIM from the fake link, money is being withdrawn by stealing OTP. The i4C has advised to take precautions, do not open unknown links, not share OTP. Take action immediately when the signal goes.
Delhi government esim fraud alert: The central government has warned the country’s mobile users about a new scam using e-sim. This scam is very dangerous, scammers can steal money from your bank account without OTP or ATM details. Recently, four lakh rupees disappeared from a person’s account in a scam with this technique. Subsequently, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) has advised people to be vigilant.
This scam starts with a phone call or SMS claiming to be from your mobile service provider. Then scammers send a fake e-sim activation link via SMS or email. On clicking on this link, your real SIM is closed. This causes your phone signal to go away. Your number is transferred to the scammers’ device. Now they get all the calls, messages and OTP directly. Using these OTPs, scammers can do transactions without physical card or password, change your passwords and withdraw money.
E-sim technology is designed for the facility of users. But the same feature gives hackers a chance to reach your digital identity and financial transaction easily. If the mobile number of e-SIM users is hacked, then they are not safe even when UPI or ATM service is closed. Keep yourself safe in the following way-
1. Do not pay attention to unknown links
To manage your e-SIM, only use the app or website of your service provider.
2. Never share OTP or personal information.
Banks or telecom companies will never ask for sensitive information from you on calls or SMS.
3. Pay attention to the sudden closure of the signal
If the call or data suddenly stops, be careful.
4. Get your number closed if needed
If you suspect hacking, immediately inform your telecom service provider and bank.
