Those planning a baby focus on eliminating many problems like stress, sleeplessness and wrong eating habits. Amidst all this, people ignore oral hygiene. Flossing helps in cleaning the mouth but it can also prevent chronic inflammatory conditions. Dr. Santwana Payasi (Dental Surgeon, Director-Braces and Faces Multispeciality Dental and Implant Centre) says that healthy teeth, healthy gums are very important for our overall health.

If your teeth and gums bleed and there is bad breath or there is infection around the teeth, then it should be treated from time to time. In this article, we are going to tell you how healthy oral health can play an important role in baby planning.

What do experts say

Dr. Santwana said, due to hormonal changes during pregnancy, gums can become more sensitive than normal, due to which the already existing problems can worsen. Therefore, evaluation of oral health and necessary medication is very important before pregnancy. To maintain good oral health, we should also do daily flossing. This method of cleaning teeth can help in baby planning. When teeth are cleaned with a toothpick, it can damage gum health, whereas flossing is a safe method. Due to this, food does not get stuck in our teeth or gums.

If flossing or cleaning is not done, bacterial infection increases which can lead to inflammation. Due to this, swelling of gums and accumulation of plaque also reduces and oral hygiene remains very good.

Connection between flossing and pregnancy

Flossing helps in keeping our teeth clean by protecting them from cavities. But it is also effective in preventing swelling in the gums. Through this we are able to avoid chronic inflammatory condition. Actually, inflammation present in the body is one of the biggest enemies of good productive health. When there is inflammation, it harms sperm quality, hormonal balance and overall fertility. Many researches have revealed that the quality of sperm of men with severe periodontal disease may be weaker than that of men with healthy gums.

Keep these things in mind also

Doctor Santwana says that if you are planning a baby, then before that, both men and women should definitely get their dental health checked. It is better to get this done earlier because X-rays and many antibiotics are ignored during pregnancy.

Along with this, teeth and gums should be cleaned with fluoride toothpaste twice a day. One should always use a soft bristle brush and flossing should be done once a day.

A healthy diet should be taken which contains Vitamin C, B and A. Regular dental health should also be made a part of life. Oral health checkup should also be included in the list of baby planning.
