Poland has supported India’s stance on the West Asia conflict. Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister said that India’s stand is right and this crisis should be resolved through diplomacy. He also emphasized free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear non-proliferation.
New Delhi [भारत]July 13 (ANI): Poland on Monday supported India’s stance on the Middle East conflict. Poland’s Secretary of State and Deputy Foreign Minister Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski described New Delhi’s approach as the “right position” and stressed that the current crisis should be resolved through diplomacy while ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Poland supported India’s stand
Speaking to ANI in New Delhi, Bartoszewski said India’s role as a major economy and energy importer made its balanced approach important amid the ongoing conflict. He said, “India’s position is right because you are a big and important country, and you benefit from free access to commodities, including oil, and you are heavily dependent on oil and gas from the Gulf. Poland is still maintaining contacts with Iran… We have informed them that our preferred solution is a diplomatic solution. So we are also doing what Prime Minister Modi does. We try to talk logically, but I would say the impact is marginal.”
The Strait of Hormuz must remain open
On the ongoing West Asia conflict, the Polish minister stressed that the international waterway, i.e. the Strait of Hormuz, should remain open and stressed that no toll should be charged for crossing it. He said, “The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to traffic. We do not accept the closure of such waterways. We also do not accept that some people want to charge tolls for crossing the waterway. There is an international agreement that international seas are open to all traffic, and this is Poland’s fixed position.”
Opposition to Iran’s nuclear program
The Polish minister also reiterated Warsaw’s opposition to nuclear proliferation, including by Iran. However, he stressed that it is enough for some nations, including India, to have nuclear weapons. He said the Iran–US conflict should be resolved diplomatically, not “by force”. He said, “We firmly believe that Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. We do not believe in the proliferation of nuclear weapons. There are some nations, including India, that have them, and that is enough… We support the Indian stance on this because free trade is important… We welcome the ceasefire, although it is not fully working… This dispute should be resolved diplomatically and politically, and not by force.”
