The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, which will give new impetus to the infrastructure of Uttar Pradesh, is finally ready. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate this ambitious project this evening. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also be present on this occasion. After the inauguration, the expressway will be opened to the general public from Tuesday. This is not just a new road, but is being considered as a project that will give a new direction to the connectivity and economic development of UP.
The journey from Lucknow to Kanpur will be completed in 35-45 minutes.
With the opening of this 63 kilometer long six-lane expressway, the travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur will reduce from two and a half hours to just 35 to 45 minutes. Cars and other light four-wheelers will be able to run at a maximum speed of 120 km per hour on the expressway, while the speed limit for heavy vehicles has been fixed at 80 km per hour. Due to better design and controlled traffic system, travel will be safer and more comfortable than before.
UP’s first barrier-free highway, toll will be deducted while moving
The biggest feature of this expressway, built at a cost of about Rs 4,700 crore, is that it will be the first barrier-free highway in Uttar Pradesh. There will be no traditional toll plazas here. With the help of RFID and ANPR cameras, toll will be automatically deducted as soon as the vehicle passes, thereby eliminating the problem of traffic jams. The one-way toll for small four-wheelers has been set at Rs 275. If a vehicle returns within 24 hours, the total toll on both sides will be Rs 415.
Access controlled road will increase security, many districts will benefit
Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will be completely access controlled. That means vehicles will be able to enter and exit this road only from the designated entry and exit points. This will reduce the possibility of uncontrolled traffic and road accidents. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers will not be allowed to ply on this expressway.
This project will improve the connectivity of many districts including Ayodhya, Hardoi, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Unchahar and Barabanki. Besides, the 32 km long four-lane highway between Hardoi-Lucknow, built at a cost of Rs 541 crore, will also give a new impetus to the regional development. It is believed that this entire corridor will play an important role in creating new opportunities for industrial activities, investment and employment.
