The Indian mango which was rejected by Japan, now people are rushing to buy it in this country!

Indian mangoes are in great demand in Singapore markets.

When it comes to mango, the king of fruits, India has no competition in the whole world. The sweetness of our local mangoes is so magical in foreign markets that we always remain on top in terms of exports. However, recently Indian exporters suffered a setback when Japan’s plant quarantine authorities stopped some of our premium varieties during inspection citing technical deficiencies in fumigation (pest control process). But in the world of business, when one market closes, another opens. The same quality mangoes which were rejected by Japan are being sold indiscriminately in the supermarkets of Singapore. The people there are taking it in stride.

Looting in Singapore markets

The top class varieties like Saffron, Alphonso, Langra, Banganapalli, which Japan had banned from importing, are now seeing huge demand in Singapore. The Indian High Commission in Singapore itself has shared information about this trend on the social media platform X. According to the High Commission, the people of Singapore have such a craze for Indian mangoes that the shelves in the supermarkets there are becoming empty within minutes as soon as the stock arrives.

Huge demand from Gulf countries to Europe

India’s agricultural exports are in a very strong position on the international trade front. There is a huge demand for our premium mangoes not only in Singapore but also in the Gulf countries. The figures of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) testify to this success. According to the data of the year 2024, India alone exported more than 12,897 metric tonnes of mangoes worth $20 million (about Rs 166 crore) to UAE. Apart from this, Indian mangoes also dominate in developed markets like America, Britain, Qatar, Kuwait.

Farmers earn bumper income due to record production

According to official estimates of PIB, the production of mango in the country is estimated to be 228.37 lakh metric tonnes during the year 2024-25. This figure is the highest in the entire world. Due to the geographical diversity of our country, many special varieties of mango are produced here. Mangoes like Alphonso, Banganpalli, Kesar, Totapuri, Neelam, Sindoora, Mallika are highly liked in foreign markets. They fetch excellent prices not only in the export market but also in the Indian domestic market. States like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh are the main centers of this bumper production, where it has become a major basis for the livelihood and economy of the farmers.
