‘No double standards, no compromise on terrorism’: PM Modi after talks with Malaysian PM Ibrahim

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said there can be “no double standards and no compromise” in the fight against terrorism, as India and Malaysia agreed to further deepen cooperation in defence, security, technology and the Indo-Pacific after bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur.

Addressing the media after the talks, PM Modi said both sides discussed strengthening counter-terrorism and maritime security partnerships and expanding strategic cooperation.

“Our message on terrorism is clear: no double standards, no compromise,” Modi said. He added that India and Malaysia will strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing and maritime security.

‘Will make defence cooperation more comprehensive’

The Prime Minister said defence engagement between the two countries will be broadened. “We will also make defence cooperation more comprehensive,” he said.

PM Modi further emphasised the importance of regional architecture and multilateral reform, saying both sides shared similar views on global governance challenges. “Our collective view is that reforming global institutions is necessary to address today’s challenges,” he said.

He added that India continues to back ASEAN’s central role in the regional framework. “India gives priority to ASEAN centrality,” he said, adding that New Delhi is committed to working with the bloc to ensure peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific.

‘Indo-Pacific emerging as growth engine of world’

“We are committed to development, peace and stability across the entire Indo-Pacific region together with ASEAN. The Indo-Pacific region is emerging as the growth engine of the world,” Modi said.

He also announced plans to expand cooperation in emerging and strategic sectors. “Along with AI and digital technologies, we will advance partnerships in semiconductors, health and food security,” he said.

PM Modi arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and was accorded a ceremonial reception at Perdana Putra ahead of the talks.
