Mumbai, Feb 6 (PTI) – Young Indian pacer Harshit Rana is expected to be sidelined for the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury sustained during a warm-up match.
Team captain Suryakumar Yadav indicated on Friday that Rana’s condition appears serious.
While Suryakumar did not officially rule Rana out, he suggested that the bowler is unlikely to recover in time for India’s opening match against the USA on Saturday. The team’s physios are currently assessing his injury status.
Injury Details
Harshit Rana could only bowl one over in the warm-up game against South Africa, conceding 16 runs before leaving the field with his injury. Sources within the Indian team have indicated that his chances of returning during the tournament are slim.
Potential Replacements
In the event of Rana’s absence, experienced pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are being considered as potential replacements. Despite his fluctuating economy rate of 10.60 in nine T20Is, Rana’s inclusion would have been beneficial under specific conditions, especially as a lower-order hitter.
Additional Injury Concerns
Moreover, all-rounder Washington Sundar is also facing uncertainty due to a side strain and rib muscle tear, further complicating the team’s preparations for the World Cup.
