How to offer tarpan to ancestors?

On the day of Ashadh Amavasya, wake up early in the morning and take bath and wear clean clothes. Then perform tarpan on the banks of any river, pond or holy reservoir. This method can also be done at home in a clean place. While offering tarpan, take water in a copper vessel. Add black sesame seeds, kush and white flowers if available. After this, face south and remember your ancestors and offer water three times with devotion. While offering tarpan, it is considered most important to have a feeling of respect towards one’s ancestors.

What to donate on Ashadh Amavasya?

According to religious beliefs, donation made on Amavasya day is considered manifold fruitful. On this day, according to one’s devotion and capacity, one can donate food grains, black sesame seeds, clothes, umbrella, shoes and slippers, fruits, jaggery, Dakshina and food to the needy. Serving cows, feeding birds and feeding the poor are also considered auspicious.
