T20 World Cup 2026: Shimron Hetmyer’s tremendous blast was seen in the match between West Indies and Scotland. Hetmyer spewed such fire from the bat that even Chris Gayle’s record could not be saved from being burnt to ashes. By defeating Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer has now become the batsman to score the fastest half-century for West Indies in the T20 World Cup. Hetmyer broke Gayle’s record by a margin of just one ball.

17 years ago i.e. in the 2009 T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle scored a half-century against Australia in just 23 balls. This was the highest record by any Caribbean batsman in the history of T20 World Cup, which has been broken by Shimron Hetmyer in his very first match played in the 2026 T20 World Cup. Hetmyer completed his half-century in 22 balls in West Indies’ very first match against Scotland.

Hetmyer scored 64 runs with 6 sixes

Against Scotland, Shimron Hetmyer scored 64 runs facing 36 balls. Played at a strike rate of 177.77, this innings included 6 sixes and 2 fours. Hetmyer was the most successful batsman of his team. Thanks to his stormy game, the West Indies team, playing first, managed to score 182 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs against Scotland.

Apart from Shimron Hetmyer, Rutherford scored 26 runs in 13 balls at a strike rate of 200 for West Indies in the match being played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Apart from him, Rovman Powell played an inning of 24 runs in 14 balls. There was a partnership of 54 runs between the opening pair of Brendan King and captain Shay Hope. Brendan King scored 35 runs in 30 balls. Whereas Shay Hope was seen struggling. He scored 19 runs in 22 balls.

Brad Currie was the most successful bowler for Scotland, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs. Apart from them, Shafayan Sharif, Davidson and Michael Leask got 1 wicket each.
