Discussions have started between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the match against India in T20 World Cup 2026. PCB had expressed its intention to withdraw from this match citing force majeure clause, but ICC has raised questions on the validity of this clause and sought answers from PCB. Let us tell you, the Government of Pakistan has given permission to PCB to participate in the World Cup, but has also ordered not to participate in the India-Pakistan match to be held on 15th February.

PCB gave information to ICC

After this decision of the Pakistan government, the PCB informed the ICC that it will stay away from this match under the force majeure clause. This clause is included in Clause 12 of the Member Partnership Agreement, which provides for exemption from the contract in circumstances such as unexpected events such as natural disaster, war and government orders. But the ICC, reacting to this claim of PCB, has raised questions on the validity of the clause. He has asked the PCB whether they have taken any steps to mitigate this situation.

Demand for financial compensation

Also, the ICC has said that it will demand financial compensation from the PCB for possible non-compliance and absence. According to the ICC, member boards have an unconditional commitment to play all scheduled matches, and withdrawing from selected matches may constitute a breach of contract. In such a situation, the PCB has now taken the initiative to adopt the path of dialogue with the ICC to resolve this entire issue, so that the dispute arising regarding the India-Pakistan match can be resolved.

Let us tell you, the government order can be included under force majeure, due to which the PCB can get legal protection. But ICC argues that since the match is being played at a neutral venue (Colombo) and Pakistan is ready to play the remaining matches, this clause is not fully applicable. In such a situation, talks have started between the two parties. This issue has become a topic of much discussion in the cricket world, because India-Pakistan match is considered the biggest cricket match.
